Country Director – South Sudan

Lead the fight against poverty

VSO is a development organisation that has been working through volunteers to fight poverty for more than fifty years and we are the leading organisation in the field.
We work in almost 50 countries and we are constantly exploring new ways to use the time, energy and skills of people to make a difference.
VSO has a new country programme in South Sudan and we are looking for a country director to help us breathe life into it.
This is your chance to play a decisive role in shaping the way our operations in South Sudan look for years to come.

We’ll look to you to lead our new programme in South Sudan, implementing and maximising the impact of VSO’s contribution to combating poverty and disadvantage in the country during a period of change and growth.
This will involve not only developing new relationships with strategic partners to shape VSOs goals in country, but also supporting our volunteers and managing our people, as well as taking responsibility for the financial and resource management and legal compliance.
In addition to your strategic impact you will work to raise the profile of VSO, networking with government agencies, donors and other international agencies, championing our values and vision at all times.

An experienced senior manager, you’ll almost certainly have prior experience of managing development or humanitarian programmes at a senior management level successfully, and be able to use your excellent leadership, negotiation and relationship building skills to implement VSOs new strategy and development initiatives.
Your experience of project-management will be key to your success in planning, resourcing and implementing our innovative programmes.
Experience securing external funding and grants is essential.

There is substantial travel within the country, to/from the regional hub and the UK.

As well as a competitive salary, the package includes comprehensive health and pension benefits.
You will be well supported with accommodation and relocation costs if you are recruited from another country.
